Disney Trip Report Day 3

Magic Kingdom

Tink magically appeared!
Today we had a really busy day planned plus it was my 49th birthday!  I wanted to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom for an extra magical day.  I dressed in homage to Minnie Mouse, wearing Minnie ear headband, a red with white polka dot shirt, black shorts, yellow socks and black shoes.  I got a lot of compliments on my clothes that day.  I even had a cast member sing Happy Birthday Princess Minnie to me!  I have to be honest, I was adorable!  I also wore the Birthday button I was given at check in.
Me and the castle
We tried to make rope drop, because I have never been to a rope drop, but we are just not morning people. We did manage to get there around 10 am, so not too bad for us.  I LOVED seeing all of the autumn decorations!  Autumn is my favorite season and it was extra fun with a Disney twist!

My favorite moments of going to the Magic Kingdom are when we first walk in and look down Main Street. I love seeing the store fronts and balloons, with the castle as the backdrop.  I always get happy tears and smile from ear to ear.  This time as we walked down Main Street, I was met with a chorus of Happy Birthday!  It was so awesome!

We made our way toward the castle and toward New Fantasyland.  They were setting up for a show so we walked around on the right side of the castle.  It is so beautiful!  I really enjoyed walking around the castle and seeing the different views from different angles.  I really love that castle. I have decided that when I retire, I am going to move in.

My castle
As we approached the entrance to new Fantasyland we all got excited!  Our goal this morning was to have an early lunch with counter service at Be Our Guest restaurant. My husband is huge fan of Beauty and the Beast and Belle is his favorite Princess.  We couldn’t get dinner reservations so we were really hoping for counter service.  However the girls had a 12:30 reservation for Pirates League so we had a bit of a time crunch. There was a 45 minute wait to be seated and we were worried we would not have enough time to order and eat so we decided to start strolling toward Adventureland while looking for a counter service restaurant that caught our interest.  We didn’t get very far because we decided to eat at “The Pinocchio Village Haus” restaurant. I had heard great reviews about their tomato soup and the rest of the group thought the menu looked yummy too. The restaurant was not quite open yet but they let us sit in the dining room near the front doors for the 20 minutes until they began serving lunch.  There were two other families also waiting and we all chatted together about where we were from, where we were staying and what we were enjoying on our vacations.

Disney Dinning counter service allows for 1 drink, 1 entree and 1 dessert.  I decided to order the caprese flatbread (it was way too hot for soup), lemonade and the chocolate gelato. The other three ordered pepperoni flatbread, lemonade and chocolate cake.

While we were waiting for our food, I noticed the cast members peeking at my Birthday badge as well as at another guy (Steve) down the way.  I started smiling because I knew they were up to something. That is when it happened, the cast members were announcing my and Steve’s names and that it was our birthdays, and they sang a song!  Everyone cheered and clapped and yelled Happy Birthday, Steve and I yelled Happy Birthday to each other and the cast members gave us each a little chocolate cake!
Chocolate Cake
Everything was really good.  I didn’t know flat bread pizza could be so good but that caprese hit the spot!  The gelato was really good too and I made everyone have a spoonful of it. It was having ice cream with our cake. The cake was pretty good too, but chocolate cake is always good. So here we are, all Rolly, polly full of yummy food again! The decor in Pinocchio Village House was super cute! I am really looking forward to going back there in the future.

Enjoying our meal at Pinocchio Village Haus
After our meal we continued onward to Adventureland.  We had a little time before our 12:30 appointment so we rode Pirates of the Caribbean to get in that pirate mood. I enjoyed the additions of Captain Jack throughout the ride. It was my first time to ride since he was added.

Next we went to the Pirates league!  First the girls got their pirate names. There was a small rotating barrel with large dice inside. The girls each rotated the barrel and the dice numbers correspond to a name. The pirate League cast member makes sure they are happy with the name (they were) and then they were taken to the pirate make over room where they were introduced by their new pirate names!
Getting their pirate names
The room was huge with about 5 makeover stations on each side of the room. The middle was furnished with various couches and seats for parents and sibling to wait and watch, and the whole room was covered in pirate booty.

The girls decided to be “pirate empress” which as far as I could tell just meant “girl pirate”, which I find very humorous. They got their hair, make-up and nails done and the left over products were put into a small gold treasure chest for them to take home. They were styled with pink bandannas and an eye patch that looked really cute.

Daughter in the white at the front and BFF in the red at the rear.
After their makeover they take a pirate oath and are introduced to the room as new pirates with a round of Huzzah!  Next they are given their pirate sword and sash and then entered a super secret room where parents are not allowed to take photos!  It was all good though because there is a Disney photographer there who took photos for part of the pirate package. The girls were also given a piece of Aztec gold and the photos came in a neat photo frame that opens up. There is a message from Captain Jack that they have to use the gold to decode.

While we waited for the photos, we had the “opportunity” to browse in the gift shop.  Hubby decided that the girls needed pirate pistols to go with their pirate cutlass. They made for some intimidating pirates!
Pirate girls!
Our next adventure was lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table for my birthday celebration!  The restaurant is in Cindy’s castle!  We walked to the restaurant entrance and then we were taken to an area where we all wait to meet Cinderella herself. While we were waiting one of the lovely cast members noticed my Birthday Badge and decided it needed some pizazz, so she added the title of “Lady” and lots of Mickey heads and told me now I was ready to meet Cinderella.  It was cute!

Soon Cinderella made her grand entrance and we got our photo taken with her and the girls got her autograph. Did I take pictures?  NO!  I was caught up in the moment, plus she wished me a Happy Birthday!  After photos we were taken up a beautiful staircase to the grand dining room!  We were seated and as it turned out we were seated at the first table the princess’s visit when they are announced to the dining room!  It was pretty cool!

My place setting had a special place mat of the Princesses’ which was pretty cool. Each child is supposed to receive either a sword or a magic wand. Our waitress brought put a wand for me and a sword for hubby and she brought out both a sword and a wand for each of the girls, because they were pirate princesses!  We girls also got wishing stars for a little ceremony later during our meal.

My birthday place mat, magic wand and wishing star!
Our meal began with a chef’s tasting plate which included salad, fruit, cheese, humus and pita points.  It was all really yummy.  We drank some kind of punch drink in wine goblets, which was both tasty and fancy. I chose to eat the oven-roasted chicken breast with farrow wheat risotto and shallot confit served with ground mustard au jus.  It was divine!

BFF chose the Gnocchi with roasted vegetables which included eggplant, mushrooms, onions and squash tossed with gnocchi, arugula, Pesto, shaved Romano and aged balsamic.  She said it was really good but the portion size was way more than she could finish.

Hubby and daughter both picked the pork sandwich which was tender pork on crusty ciabatta bread, apricot barbecue, broccoli slaw and sweet potato fries.  We all picked the little cheesecake with a strawberry gel for dessert.

During our meal we got visits from Snow White, Ariel, Jasmine and Aurora.  Hey were all very friendly and spent time chatting with the girls, signing their autograph books and posing for photos. I kept tearing up every time a princess came to our table. One point during the meal our waitress came over and asked if I was okay because I looked teary and I explained it was just all so magical and how much I was enjoying watching my girls with the princesses. She hugged me and said that is how it is supposed to be.

My husband had ordered a special chocolate slipper dessert filled with chocolate mousse and fruit for my birthday.  It said “Happy Birthday Abby” in chocolate on the plate and was very pretty!  When it was brought out there was singing and I blew out a candle but I was so caught up in the moment it is all a blur of happiness and celebration!  I shared this special dessert with my family and we all really enjoyed it.  Unfortunately we could all only manage a bite of our cheese cakes.  It was good too.  Before we left, I made a stop at the ladies room and on my way there I received several birthday well wishes from other guests.  It was really cool!

After our very yummy, very filling meal, we headed back to Adventure land for the pirate parade and show. The girls seemed to enjoy being part of the pirate parade and the show was cute. During a pre-show portion, there were two female cast members who were entertaining the crowd. They were pirates names Karen and Mandy and they were very funny! They were having a great time teaching audience responses and how to fight with a pirate sword and similar things.  While watching the show, the girls both looked at me with a gleam in their eye.  I asked what they were thinking and they both stated that these two girls were them in 5 years!  The girls have both expressed interest in the college program.

After Karen and Mandy, it was Captain Jack's turn to come out and entertain.  I was a bit disappointed that the girls were never brought up on stage or given a scroll.  This captain Jack seemed to ignore anyone over the age of 10 but the show was cute and entertaining.  We decided to split before the show ended because it had gone on for a while and we had fast passes to splash mountain.

My husband is not a fan of roller coasters or anything with a drop so he chose to skip the ride and people watch while he sat in the rented wheel chair. (He has a hard time standing for long periods of time and walking all day because he was born with spina bifida) He sat on the bridge in front of the splash mountain drop hoping to see us go over the falls.   The girls and I zoomed through the line pretty quickly and boarded the ride using the fast pass on our magic bands.  This went really smoothly for us.  We rode the ride, sang the song, took the plunge, got the ride photo on my photo pass and then went to find hubby.

When we found him he was all wet!  It turns out that while he was sitting there someone sat a drink on the railing behind him. They must have forgotten it when they walked off, then later a guy stretched out his arms on the railing, hit the drink and it dumped out all over hubby.  The guy just looked at him blankly. There was no “sorry”, no “can I get you some towels”, no anything.  Then the guy took his arm of the railing turned around and talked to the woman he was with and they walked away. All he had to do was say “sorry”, is it really so hard to be polite? So we found the nearest restroom so he could clean up and then we went on with the rest of our evening and night.

We rode the haunted mansion, It’s a small world, Mickey’s Phiharmagic, the mad tea party (hubby rode with the girls 3X) Dumbo, Journey of the Little Mermaid, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain (I rode with the girls 3x), and attended a limited time magic dance party in tomarrowland.

We had SO MUCH FUN!  We were so tired when we got back to our resort that we all crashed hard!

Fairy Godmother Cosplay

I went to an Anime convention this past weekend with my daughter and some of her friends, along with one of my friends.  It was mostly anime but there were some costumes from other IP's, such as Disney.  I met several adult cosplayers who cosplay Disney character pretty often and enjoyed my conversations with them.  It got me thinking about my days as an older teen and twenty something and my favorite cosplayers back in the day.  I also did some cosplay back then and was feeling nostalgic.  As an 50+, plus sized adult, I generally do very generalized, non-specific cosplays.  But in recent years I have a dream cosplay of being Fairy Godmother from the original Cinderella animation from 1950.  I just adore her.  I started discussing it with my friend and wondering how my con experience would be different if I went in recognizable cosplay.  My friend and I sometimes get treated as "less than" at cons.  It feels ageist.  I am won...

Home Made Mickey Waffles

I usually make eggnog pancakes for Christmas morning, but I waited too long to get eggnog and it was all sold out.  I remembered that I purchased a Mickey waffle maker (why have I not been using this appliance?) and I thought Ahh, holiday Mickey waffles!  I just used a regular boxed waffle flour but added a little vanilla extract and green and red food dye!  Very festive! Also on the menu was omelet roll, potato casserole, fruit salad, candied bacon, and cranberry sauce.  It was all super yummy!

Loss of Pets

We have had kind of a rough year.   We have lost three dogs, and its been an adjustment.   We had an older dog that was a German pointer lab mix.   We also had two “puppies” that were about 8 years old, that came from the same litter.   We were never able to get a breed on them because they were so mixed.   The vet felt that even though they came from the same liter that they may have had two different fathers. Last November out little blonde girl, Eevee, got really sick.   She was lethargic and had bloody stools, so we took her to the vet.   She had stomach cancer and we went ahead and had them try surgery.   The surgery didn’t go well.   She ended up going septic, and we had to have her euthanized.   It was so hard. We were with her and gave her pets and told her we loved her.   She did pass peacefully.   She was ready to go.   Not only did we lose her, but ewe ended up having to take out a loan to pay for her surgery ...
